Alarm

At first nothing happened. Then we started to hear some clicking noise off in the distance; then an alarm sounded. Quickly flipping the Secondary Switch back to the off position, the sound of the alarm seemed to take forever before it was silenced, and the silence was deafening.

With hearts pounding we looked at each other, and I prayed to the Universal God that no one else heard the alarm.

Smiling Nikola said, Well at least we know that there’s a power source somewhere in this place. But I don’t know what the source is. Guess you and Repte are just going to have to look some more to find out where it’s at, and find some way to turn that alarm off.

Yea, ya’ think? Was my reply. Lets just hope that no one else heard that noise, otherwise we could only hope to wind up in that camp where most everyone else is at.

Nikola lost her smile on that comment and suddenly looked ill. I asked if she was ok, and she assured me that she was. I think that the totality of everything suddenly hit her.

Going back to the cave entrance, Arkon and Repte both looked at us and asked what the heck all the racket was. Ignoring their question I asked if anyone else took notice. Arkon told me that the last patrol had been through about an hour ago, and it would probably be another hour before the next one came by, so chances were no one was close enough to hear it, and if they were, there wouldn’t be much of a chance that they’d know where to look to find out.

Looking at Repte I told him that we had a new job, I explained what had happened and that we figured out that the secondary power unit had some power to it, but how much, and how long it would last was in question, and I wasn’t in any hurry to trip that alarm again.

About that time Nikola seemed become more of herself as she said, I think it’s a warning system to alert folks that the main power had failed for some reason, and they needed to do something. I can’t imagine that there’s much power left, but if you want to get in the armory, you’ll have to find out where and how much, otherwise we’ll have to come up with an alternate solution.

My first thought was to just find the alarm system and rip it out. Although I’m not the smartest kid in the cave, I could figure out that this time brawn wasn’t the answer.

Grabbing a couple of the meal boxes, I tossed one to Repte and said, time to go searchin’ again. This time though we may be gone a while.
