Wire Chasing

Nikola asked me about what the walls were made of, and I told her rock and cement mostly. Considering for a moment she asked me, well why not find out where the power comes from to see if there is any way of turning them on.

My eyes glazed over for a moment and she smacked me in the back of the head again. Think about it you dolt, there has to be some way of getting power to the computers and probably the rest of the complex. If you’d look above your head for more than something to pry with, you’d most likely find cabling or pipes to hold the wires in place. If you follow those pipes or cabling, they’ll eventually lead to some type of power source.

Ok, I felt like an even bigger idiot… But then I was used to using more brawn than brains. My theory had always been, if it didn’t work, hit it… If it still didn’t work, hit it harder.

So, looking at everyone I asked Repte if he felt going back to do some more looking around. He smiled and said, nah, if Niki’s in a hitting mood, I’ll pass, you can take her on back to have a look around.

After a quick bite to eat, Nikola and I headed back to the room with all of the computers. It didn’t take us very long to find where all of the cabling was bundled and led out of the room. So we started down the hall to see where the cabling led to. After several minutes of following the cabling, I told Nikola, this is a new area, we’d better mark our path. She decided that for once today I had a decent idea. After doubling back a ways we started marking our paths on the walls. About the time that I was starting to get a crick in my neck from looking up all of the time the cables went through a wall at the end of a long hallway.

Fortunately this door was unlocked. Going inside we found ourselves in a room unlike anything that I’d ever seen before. Scratching my head I looked at Nikola and said, now what?

She looked around for a minute and discovered a series of panels. Knocking the dust off of a few, she found what she was looking for. Opening it up there was a bunch of switches. The switches were marked with numbers and names of a bunch of different rooms. Flipping a bunch of them back and forth, nothing seemed to happen. Opening up the panel below it was even more switches, but these were a lot bigger and were marked North Wing, West Wing, South Wing, East Wing, Control Room, Administration, Primary, and Secondary.

Holding her breath, Nikola flipped the one that that said Primary and still nothing happened. Sighing, then she flipped the one that said Secondary…
