Assignments

Posted on January 06, 2008 @ 03:31PM

Word of my arrival spread throughout the squadron like wild fire.

CAPT Yu held an informal formation and made the “official” announcement that I had been assigned to the squadron.

The news was accepted with a mixture of emotions and expressions. Most of the squadron personnel did not seem to like the idea of a biodroid being assigned to their squadron, and the fact that a few of them might actually have to interact with me seemed to have left them nonplussed. I suppose on the positive side there were some that seemed to be curious with the idea; and I hoped there would at least be one or two folks that wouldn’t mind my assignment.

Per CAPT Yu’s orders, I was not present during the formation, so I had to observe from a distance, and from where I was standing I couldn’t tell if Opsidian was in the formation or not.

After the formation was completed, CAPT Yu said that she would be holding a Section Head meeting in her office. LCDR Blackburn came into the office and informed me that while she was out, it would be my job to find out what I could about AF Rimmar, and the surrounding area.

She showed me where the files, maps, and live feeds could be accessed in the back office. She also informed me that no one was authorized to enter the back offices unless they had the proper clearance, and that they needed to be escorted at all times. Thus, while I was in the back room, a pair of guards would be stationed outside the office.

Without much of anything else to do, I dove into my assignment. My initial searches didn’t provide much information, and the live feeds were almost useless. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t provide a very good view of the terrain nor of the facilities. Since the air field had been turned over to and primarily used by the Black Guard, there wasn’t any current information available.

Just as I was starting to think that I wasn’t going to find anything useful, a thought occurred to me. It had to have been built prior to the creation/arrival of the Black Guard. So, I started a search on contractors, and the original blue prints and schematics. This provided me with a lot more information; also shifting the imaging focus from visual to IR and thermal imaging on the live feeds proved a lot more informative. I was able to match up old plans with the lay out, and was able to identify some modifications that had been made since its initial construction.

I was just starting to piece together an updated lay out of the air field when I heard a door in the front office open.
