Debriefing Capt Yu

Posted on December 13, 2007 @ 06:52PM

Before Instructor Caplan could knock on the door, CAPT Yu said, “Come in Commander, and bring the Major in with you.”

Major Geranth mumbled something under his breath as they opened the door. CAPT Yu smiled and said, “Good morning to you too Major, now close the door and have a seat so that we can get down to business.”

Each took a seat in front of Captain’s large desk. A holoscreen of Atlantia had been dimmed so that you could barely see it, but you could still it trying to upload the latest telemetric imagery.

After a few moments Caplan broke the ice, “Captain, we have a unique opportunity that we need to discuss.”

Captain Yu leaned back in her chair and quietly said, “Unique… is that what you call it?” Leaning forward, her eyes narrowed, and nearly hissing said, “I lost two good pilots to those walking pieces of tin, and you want me to take one on with my squadron ? What do you expect me to tell the rest of my pilots, or Hammer’s wife and kids or Quirky’s fiancé?”

Frustrated, Captain Yu continued, “I’ve received countless v-mails regarding this biodroid, please tell me something tangible that I can hold onto, something that I can share with my pilots.”

Caplan began, “As I was saying, you have a unique opportunity with Mox, first off, he probably knows more about aircraft than any mech you have out there on the flight line. You’ve seen the vids that I forwarded to you, he completed the entire flight program in less than 24 hours; every emergency scenario nearly flawlessly. Albeit, his technique is still a bit lacking in creativity, and he certainly doesn’t have your capabilities in a dog-fight, but, I’d put him on my wing any day of the week.

Captain Yu nearly leapt out of her chair, spitting out the words, “The only way I’m putting him in a cockpit is if he’s flying a targeting drone for my pilots to blow out of the skies.”

Snorting, Caplan calmly said, “Put in that scenario, I’d keep an eye on your pilots to make sure that they don’t shoot each other out of the sky. Do you recall how you got your call sign ?”

Calming slightly, Captain Yu nodded. “Of course I do, that was probably the most stressful day of training that ever experienced in your hangar bay.”

Slowly Caplan reached into his inside pocket, and pulled out a vid-shard and handed it to Captain Yu, he quietly said, “Then I think you need to take a look at this.”

Inserting the shard, a holoscreen blinked to life. Quietly Captain Yu said play and a scenario began to unfold. With aircraft coming in from all directions, OPALMOX maneuvered his aircraft through a series of twists and turns, using shielding techniques, he prevented his aircraft being vaporized a number of times. Scissoring in and out of aircraft, the aggressors shot each other out of the sky. When it was four bogies left, he dove sharply, taking the airframe to its limits, he executed a sharp banking turn, pushing the directional thrusters in the opposite direction, he threw his aircraft into a spin, and with two quick bursts he dispatched two of the bogies. Recovering he climbed and looped around, executing an Immelmann, he quickly dispatched the remaining two bogies. Elapse time read 18 minutes, 25.28 seconds.

After the clip finished, Caplan quietly said, “No one else has seen this clip. He completed it just as I arrived from the briefing, so I took it for my personal review. The tactics he uses are so basic, and simplistic, that it catches everyone off guard. His strength is in his simplicity and innocence.”

Leaning back in her chair, she quietly digested what she just saw. Looking at Major Geranth she said, “You’ve been very quiet Taylor, what’s your twist on this? Why is the Intelligence Committee escorting this biodroid to my door step?”
