The need for speed!

Posted on November 23, 2008 @ 09:34AM

The zakki repair is continuing. I’ve finally strapped on all the hover pads and secured them properly. I’ve tried them out on a low setting, and I can get the zakki to hover a few feet off the ground. I haven’t installed the rear thruster yet, partially, because I’m not ready, but mostly because I don’t have one.

The rear thruster is what gives the zakki it’s forward thrust. It’s pretty important unless you just want to hover in mid-air. I was talking to Kam about my dilemma and he said:
“We could boost one off an FX-80?”
“It’s just a hoverbike!” I said. “If we strap a fighter thruster onto it you’d be going so fast you’d liquefy on impact!”
“So that’s a no then?” Kam laughed.
“We need something fast.” I said. “But not that fast.”

We sat down and had a think about it, and decided to try out the junk yard again. We looked around for ages until all we were starting to lose hope. The guy who ran the place, a gangly splicer guy with what must have been spider monkey genes swung over from some beams and asked what we were looking for.

“I need a rear thruster for an L-Class Zakki I’m doing up.” I said.
“Hrmm,” The guy looked like he was thinking quite hard. “Oh yes!” he said, and swung off. He came back holding what looked like exactly what I wanted.
“This is from an older speedster hovercar,” He said. “Yours for cheap, but you bring that Zakki by when it’s done up. An’ if anyone asks you how you were able to get it so fast, you tell ‘em Ralphie hooked you up!”
“Woah,” I said. “Thanks Ralphie! You got it!”

This thing was a great find. Looked like it could be installed with an afterburner without too much effort. I grinned all the way back to the garage. I can’t wait to install this puppy!
