The Zakki and a visitor.

Posted on November 16, 2008 @ 02:28AM

So I’ve managed to replace many of the busted hoverpads for the Zakki I am fixing up. The last two were actually of a larger hovercar I found at this junkyard outside of campus.

Oh, I should talk about that. What a great place. It’s full of old vehicles, and all kinds of electronic equipment, you name it. I wouldn’t be surprised if they had a bunch of junk from before the quakes.

Anyway, so I had to think of how to incorporate these two larger hoverpads on the zakki, a vehicle about half the size of your standard hovercar. These things have to put out more force to move a heavier weight, but if the’re put on one of the areas where the Zakki allows for pads, it’s going to make the whole thing off balance. The way I got around this was moving them higher up the back, and dial the power output down as much as I could. The benefit of this is it means if I rig it up just right, I can use them for maneuvering later. I hope.

Anyway, I was attaching these when that Lazerman guy walks into the garage. Now that guy has presence, that you have to take notice of. He seems like the type of person that would staunchly be your best mate, loyal to the end, but if you made an enemy of him, you’d probably regret it. So I kind of just stared at him when he walked in.
“Hi,” he saids.
“G’day,” I replied.
“Cole Lazerman,” he said.
“Yeah,” I return. Like I wouldn’t know who he is. “Uhh, Derf.” I say
“That an L-Class Zakki 5000?” he asked, motioning towards the bike. “I used to have one of those.”
“Most of it is,” I said. “I’m trying to put it together with what I can scrape together. What happened to yours.”
He was staring at the Zakki, looking almost a little sad. “Oh,” he said. “It got totalled.”

After that, we had a good old conversation. Apparently he’d been quite active in souping his one up himself. He gave me a couple of pointers, and some ideas about what to do with the Zakki, and I told him he’s welcome to come an help work on it if he wants to sometime. I got the impression he probably wouldn’t though. The guy seems like he has a lot on his mind.
