Starting work on the Zakki

Posted on November 08, 2008 @ 01:42AM

I got to working on my new (although mostly busted) L-Class Zakki 5000. It turns out that the model has been obsolete for a while, and the newest thing that the General Aerospace and Hovercars Corporation has made is a N-Class Zakki 10K. I am completely indifferent to this, because all we had back at Erebus was 30 year old Snow Mobiles.

My biggest problem so far, was getting suitable reference material to be able to go to work on this baby. Miro, who really is a godsend, and quite the expert researcher, managed to get me a copy of the Manual for the M-Class Zakki 1000. It’s a little more advanced, but the principles are the same.

The first thing I did was dismantle the thing, and lay it all out on a canvas I got cheap. This will probably be where much of my extra scholarship money goes, but I’m betting I have a great and educational time doing it, so what the hell. I’ve detached the major parts from the chassis. Besides all of the minor problems, it looks like only three of the six hoverpads are in working order. The fuel-reactor is going to need an overhaul too, and the air-brakes look quite dodgy.

Kam came in as I was looking it over.
“How is it?” he asked.
“Good,” I replied. “Just getting the lay of the land. Think I’ll be needing some new spare parts.”
“I’m sure you’re up to the challenge,” Kam said.
”’course I am,” I grinned. “You want to help me clean all these parts?”
“That would involve a lot of time,” said Kam.
“Yeah.”
“It’d be quite greasy and messy,” He continued.
“Yep.”
“Yeah,” he said. “Don’t think so. This is your baby, I’d hate to get between him and you.”
“It’s cool,” I said. “But it’s a her.”
“What’s her name?” he asked.

Hmm. I don’t know yet.
