Back in Erebus, we got around on Snow-Mobiles. I’ve never really mentioned, but one of the most relaxing things for me to do was repair those things. Fixing things is great, because it’s not really that taxing on the gray matter, but you’re kind of being active, but not too active, do you know what I mean? It feels like you’re accomplishing something while relaxing. I was talking to Miro about it, and she suggested it was like a form of focus meditation. She’s a smart girl that one.

The problem is, here at Tosadae, there’s not really a great call for snowmobiles out here. The types we used back home, they were a light type of hovercraft which generated minimal heat, so you wouldn’t melt the ice behind you. The hoverpads let out a cooling effect, and the heat output of the craft was minimal. The snowmobiles were also designed with sled-blades, just in case of hoverpad failure.

Snow mobiles aren’t really practical in warmer climates, for starters, you don’t want to ice up the roads so that some poor guy slips up and does himself an injury, and because, well the adaptations are not really necessary. I mentioned to Kam that I really miss playing mechanic on the old snow mobiles, and he told let me to let him see what he can do about that.

A few days later, Kam told me to meet him down at the Tosadae mechanic bay. He led me over to one of the rooms of the side and showed me a sheet draped over something.
“What’s this then?” I asked him.
“Why don’t you remove the wrapping and find out/”
I tore off the sheet, to find an old broken looking air bike.
“It’s an old L-Class Zakki 5000,” Kam said. “It’s a piece of junk, but…”
I cut him off, “It’s beautiful. I told him. How much do you want for it.”
“Don’t be silly,” said Kam. “It’s an old cast off, from the old man’s company. It doesn’t go, but you look like you’re in need of a good challenge. Student’s are allowed access to the rooms here for free.”
“Kam, mate, I can’t accept this,” I said.
“Don’t worry, guy,” he replied. “It cost me nothing, and it would have got scrapped otherwise. Anyhow, I figure you’re going to need to be spending money on spare parts judging on the state of this thing.”
“Well, at the very least, you’d better let me by you some drinks.” I told him.
“Now you’re speaking my language,” he said.

Well. I’m going to need to get some reference out. This is going to take a fair bit of tinkering to get in the air.
